Flocking is both a product and a technique. It refers to small fabric fibers, usually of nylon or polyester. Initially, these were used in conjunction with an electrostatic flocking gun to create the effect of velvet. Flocking is the process of applying this material to a surface.

In prosthetic makeup, flocking is used as an intrinsic pigmentation in products like silicone and gelatin used to simulate capilliaries.
