A Benner shot (also known as "pulling a Benner") refers to any in-camera effect that relies on optical illusion. These include forced perspective, matte paintings, the Schüfftan process, and lens filters.


It is currently unknown who the original Benner was. Some people speculate it was Richard Benner, an American filmmaker who died in 1990, but no one knows for sure.
